Lovely Vintage HAND MADE Cheyenne Native American Ladies' Fancy Straw Hat
Western Style
This is a 'hard formed' straw hat, it is not adjustable and the brim is not meant to be crushed. Edges of hat are turned slightly up and over the eyes is turned slightly down.
This hat is amazing- it has so many beautiful details and is absolutely gorgeous. The front of the hat has a natural toned suede piece which is painted at the edges with a line of blue and a line of rose colored trim.
Center of the suede has a silver concho-style buckle with etched designs. Back of hat has a smaller sized silver concho buckle with etched designs.
Beneath the front buckle is rows of beadwork- turquoise, white, pale pink, and pearl tone.
Beneath the rows of beading is a real crown of white fur, most likely rabbit fur.
There are suede ties which go around from the front of the hat, and 4 of these strips of suede hang down below the back rim of the hat.
Each of the 4 strips is tipped with a white fluffy feather. There are silver toned beads and one colored bead with each feather- 2 turquoise colored beads and a pink and a purple bead. These beads are acrylic.
Inside of hat has a cloth label which reads Cheyenne, Size L, Hughes hat Co with the image of a Cheyenne brave smoking a pipe.
This hat is in EXCELLENT condition- NO DAMAGE and no crushed spots, splits to straw, soiling, etc. Feathers are clean and unbroken. Beadwork on brim is tight and no beads are missing.
The silver toned acrylic beads with the hanging back feathers have darkened with age, and the small silver buckle on the back of the hat has some brown residue where the suede is threaded through it. This is almost impossible to notice and I would NOT call this damage at all- see pic 9.
A gorgeous, one of a kind, unique hat that is a real stunner.
